Poem to Use with Zoo Babies

Ten little animals were sitting on my bed,
Waiting for a bedtime story to be read.
I climbed up to join them, and opened my book,
Then I thought I heard a noise
And I raised my head to look.
Ten little animals were jumping on my bed.
The tiger bounced off and bumped his head.
I called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more tigers jumping on the bed!"

Have children put puppets on their hands and bounce up and down. As you call the animal in the story, have the person with that animal throw the animal off when it falls off the bed. Continue counting down the numbers and animals and end with:

One little animal was jumping on my bed,
The kangaroo bounced off and bumped his head.
I called the doctor and the doctor said,
"Tell those animals it's time to get to bed!"
Ten little animals began to fall asleep.
I kissed each one, softly on the cheek.
I pulled up the covers, and turned out the lights.
Good night little animals, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.
